Taking a stab at the whole writing thing. Got deepseek v4 flash in its new fancy harness to clean up my abandoned website and then had it interview me for this first blog post. Fought the urge to not just post it verbatim but I am here actually typing the words out for what it’s worth.

I’ll probably come back to this post a few times, my primary goal is just to try and talk about some of the content i’ve been consuming and what resonates and interests me right now. For now i’m just going to dump all the shit below and come back to it. Probably also share my x follower list as that should be a reasonable proxy for where I’m at.

I talk a lot irl and am pretty opinionated but writing is foreign to me and it’s honestly already bothering me how much time I’m spending on this.

I’ll circle back on these and update the post with my takeaways from each, but here are some things that have resonated with me lately.

Inference engineering. Earlier this year I started pondering what actually happens when you hit claude’s api. I had watched enough 3Blue1Brown, Julia Turc, Karpathy and spent enough hours in the ArXiv trenches to feel like I had a good grasp on transformer architecture. I slowly started drifting down the inference rabbithole as I looked to better understand how models are actually served. Next thing I know I’m watching Latent Space episode with Philip Kiely & Ali Taha from Baseten — and the concept of Spec Spec Spec Dec… and had an order placed for Philip Kiely’s Inference Engineering book… “Anotha One”.

Robotics, and one very specific itch. Ever since I saw this soft floating helium robot companion on my feed i’ve been plagued by circling back to a Claude chat I have planning out the logistics of ordering everything and building one for my apartment. I figured it would be a good DIY project to mess around with autonomous movement and I really want to paint it as a Wailord… Worth it even just to have him set sail for a video. Trying to draw some inspiration from @yacineMTB on X who started hacking around with hardware and robotics in the past few years.

Staying optimistic. Had never heard of the software should work conference but was blessed with Andrew Kelley’s talk “Don’t Take the Black Pill” presentation in my home feed. Probably because I’ve spent more time than i’d like to admit following the Rust vs Zig lore. I’ve sent this to a bunch of people, some not engineering or not in tech. If you let him cook long enough to make it to the end then I hope you leave inspired.
